Idealist Jan 2016 - Aug 2016
Imagine you are reading a BBC article about endangered animals. You want to help the animals. Instead of clicking on Facebook or Twitter to share it, what if there was an “Act Button” that feeds readers all relevant opportunities related to saving endangered animals? This is the “Act Button” project that I worked on from January to August 2016 with the biggest US nonprofit aggregator, Idealist.
This demo uses the “Flint Michigan Water Crisis” as an example to demonstrate how the Act Button looks like.
The prototype has 4 functionalities: “Show Up” (event & volunteer action), “Speak Up” (political action), “Give” (financial action) and “Learn” (read more related articles/research).
Once the Act Button users click on the curated opportunities presented in the interface(s), they are directed to third party websites, where they can browse more information and take action.
The second version involves more complex features such as user info, progress bar, etc.
The Connected feature has not yet been added to the product. It is just an initial idea to connect people who aspire to contribute to social causes. The idea involves many technological challenges. Therefore, the three interfaces below are built with Adobe Illustator.
The full version of the second prototype has 5 options (refer the picture below). The product demo on top of the page excludes the connect feature). This product aims to be an interactive piece of technology that does not handle database. It merely aggregates information from APIs and redirects the internet traffic to other related websites. The challenge of building a connect feature involves building an server and a database. Therefore, it will not appear on the early version.
The picture on the right is the interface of "Learn". It takes users to related news stories.
